EVANGELIST
A Mesh Community Evangelist serves as the vital bridge between open-source LoRa radio technology and the everyday public. The core mission is to champion decentralized, off-grid communication by educating the community, driving grassroots adoption, and helping individuals deploy their own nodes. By demystifying the hardware and highlighting the value of resilient, independent networks, the evangelist transforms curious locals into active participants whose involvement actively strengthens the mesh network for everyone. OUTREACH
The Woodlands Mesh Outreach role focuses on expanding our local mesh network by finding and securing optimal locations for LoRa repeater nodes. This involves connecting with building managers, local businesses, churches, municipal water tower operators, and anyone else with elevated real estate. Securing these high-vantage points requires professionalism, persistence, and the ability to clearly explain the technology—specifically, how an off-grid, decentralized network works and why hosting a Meshtastic node builds resilient, community-wide communication infrastructure. To keep deployment efforts coordinated and prevent overlapping outreach, volunteers gain access to a private node-tracking tool once they are onboarded. Register
BUILDER
The Mesh Builder role is the hands-on force behind our physical network. Builders design, assemble, and test LoRa nodes—ranging from portable client radios to solar-powered rooftop repeaters. They also create well-documented build guides covering hardware selection, 3D-printed enclosures, and firmware flashing, empowering others to easily replicate successful setups. If you are comfortable with microcontrollers, soldering, weatherproofing, or custom enclosure work, this role directly constructs and extends the reach of our local mesh. Register
INSTALLER
The Woodlands Mesh Installer is the critical link in establishing the backbone of our decentralized network. Responsible for deploying community repeaters at high-elevation sites such as tall buildings, rooftops, communications towers, hilltops, and treetops. Installers maximize the line-of-sight necessary for long-range LoRa communication. This hands-on role involves safely mounting hardware, ensuring robust weatherproofing, and optimizing antenna placement and solar power setups. By physically placing these strategic relay nodes in the sky, the Installer transforms isolated clusters of users into a wide-reaching, resilient community mesh. Register

MESH TECHSPERTS
The LoRa Mesh Technical Expert serves as the ultimate escalation point for complex network challenges and advanced architectural planning. While the general Help Desk handles basic onboarding and troubleshooting, the Technical Expert tackles high-level infrastructure optimization. This role involves designing robust network topologies, fine-tuning mesh firmware configurations, such as adjusting path hashes for regional repeaters, and solving intricate hardware issues like mitigating RF desensing in custom dual-node solar enclosures. By providing deep-dive expertise into routing behavior, MQTT automation integrations, and advanced power management, the Technical Expert ensures the mesh operates at peak efficiency and scales sustainably as the community grows. HELP DESK
The Volunteer Mesh Help Desk is the frontline of user retention for our mesh networks. Every week, new enthusiasts discover Meshtastic and MeshCore projects, but many abandon them if they hit technical roadblocks without support. When a new user is struggling with firmware flashing, optimal LoRa channel settings, or why their node isn’t seeing the local mesh, a Help Desk Volunteer is their crucial lifeline. By providing clear, knowledgeable troubleshooting, these volunteers turn frustration into understanding. A single helpful interaction can be the difference between someone giving up on the hardware and becoming a lifelong, active contributor to the local community. Register
- THE WOODLANDS MESH DISCORD CHANNEL – The TWDSMesh Discord Channel is the perfect operational hub for the Volunteer Help Desk because it combines real-time troubleshooting with community building. The discord channel is the front door of our mesh community. When someone shows up confused about firmware, radio settings, or why their node isn’t connecting, a knowledgeable volunteer can keeps a new participant involved in the community instead of losing them to frustration. PARTICIPANT
The Mesh Participant is the foundational building block of the mesh network. Unlike traditional cellular networks where users merely consume a service, in a mesh network, every user is the infrastructure. By simply keeping a pocket node powered on, properly configured, and connected to monitor the mesh, Participants with repeater node, increase routing reliability, and create the overlapping paths necessary for a resilient, self-healing communication mesh.
